First day of school

Take two.

Today was Ella's first day of school. I had hoped this would be a smooth transition but it was a little bumpy. After our arrival I found that if you continue to drive east passed Ella's (zoned) school, you cruise right into the ghetto. This made the elementary school a little sketch for me. We gave it a shot and went to look at it. Um, no. I am convinced it is named Dogertown because when you get to the school you want to turn and dodge that part of town. Anyway, we filed for a zone change and got approved to go to Glendale Elementary. Still different from Troutman but we will all adjust. Very ethnically diverse. Ella says there are some almost black kids, some brown like dark brown, and some just a little brown, and then there are some that are a really really little brown but not really. :) she seems to have a nice teacher. She talked about the school all afternoon. She will continue to adjust and we are checking into the gymnastics places. We do have phone and Internet. I will be sending out our moving cards with all our updated info soon.

At least you got to change schools fairly easily! We are moving in June and I'm a little freaked about finding schools/doctors/etc...and I only have one child to worry about. I don't know how you do it with four!! You are an inspiration!! :)

That's my biggest concern when we move - the whole school thing. It sucks when you find a school that is awesome and then have to move to an area with a school that's not so awesome. :( She will adjust - she's a big girl!! :)

Jan- I can totally understand your fears about changing doctors with Hannah. Schools, lots of research. lots of calls to the school board and if there are good magnet or charter schools go ahead and put her on the waiting list. Can take awhile to get in. Didn't realize that, oops. HA! It is a change there will always be trade offs.

Mari- Troutman was great but now looking at the things they are working on here i see how Troutman could improve. I love Troutman but i really like the academics here. This school has some safety concerns but probably because Troutman was so locked down they seem a little to free here. Ella LOVES it. Her teacher has been out so i look forward to getting in a routine with her teacher. Her vocabulary has gotten better in just a week. New words, Blustery and perhaps. not something they covered in NC. You will find another awesome school. It is what you make it. :)
